REGENLOOP Lab-Scale Reactor Development and Automation
I contribute to the development of a laboratory-scale experimental reactor for the DOE-funded REGENLOOP program, supporting research into chemical-looping reverse water-gas-shift processes for carbon dioxide conversion.
The Colorado School of Mines experimental platform combines a cyclic chemical-looping reactor with a fluidized-particle heat-transfer subsystem intended to support thermal management during alternating reaction steps.
My role spans system documentation, controls, data acquisition, reactor assembly, instrumentation, component integration, and preparation of the experimental platform for commissioning and testing.
Areas of contribution
- Develop and troubleshoot LabVIEW-based control and data-acquisition workflows for automated cyclic reactor operation.
- Organize subsystem commands, measurements, automated sequences, and safety-related operating logic.
- Build the reactor system through tubing, mechanical integration, instrumentation, and pneumatic hardware.
- Create system-level engineering diagrams documenting material flow, measurements, control commands, and hardware interfaces.
- Research and select components for high-temperature, gas-handling, and instrumentation applications.
- Support MATLAB- and Python-based flow-rate, sizing, and thermal-management calculations.
- Communicate with vendors and research partners while maintaining system documentation as the design evolves.
