Beyond the résumé
I’m Anastasiia — a mechanical engineering student, researcher, volunteer, and first-generation student leader building a life and an engineering career in Colorado.
I’m originally from Russia and moved to the United States in 2021. Since then, I have earned an associate degree, transferred to the Colorado School of Mines, and continued building my path in mechanical engineering.
My application for U.S. citizenship is currently pending. Becoming a citizen will mark an important personal milestone in the life I have built here.
What matters to me
Moving between countries and education systems taught me to become comfortable with unfamiliar situations, ask better questions, and find a way forward even when the path is not immediately clear.
Those experiences influence both my engineering work and the way I participate in my community. I enjoy solving technical problems, but I also care about sharing information, supporting other students, and helping make professional opportunities more accessible.

I enjoy creating resources, volunteering at professional events, and helping students navigate unfamiliar academic and professional environments.
Student leadership
I serve as Vice-President of the Tri-Alpha Honor Society chapter at the Colorado School of Mines. Tri-Alpha recognizes and supports first-generation college students while creating a stronger community around their experiences.
My work includes planning events, developing partnerships with other student organizations, coordinating outreach, and creating opportunities for students to connect, volunteer, and support one another.
I also designed and built the chapter’s website to provide one central place for events, membership information, partnerships, and chapter updates.

I supported event operations at the 41st Space Symposium, assisting with logistics and attendee coordination.
Volunteering at the event gave me the opportunity to engage with aerospace professionals and gain insight into current industry trends, organizations, and technologies.

Colorado School of Mines Society of Women Engineers
Mentored visiting high school students through an immersive “day in the life” experience of a Mechanical Engineering student.
Guided students through technical laboratories, lectures, and design spaces, answered questions about college and engineering careers, and encouraged young women to explore STEM.
BRICS International Forum
Provided on-site logistical support and live translation services for international delegations during the 7th BRICS Summit.
Helped facilitate communication between organizers and attendees in a high-profile international event environment.
Ufa High School 91
Supported the school’s international relations work by translating official documents, correspondence, and meeting notes between Russian and English.
This was one of my earliest opportunities to use language skills to support communication across institutions and cultures.
I also created a Russian-language webinar sharing what I learned about U.S. college admissions, financial aid, campus resources, and adjusting to a new education system.
A little more about me
Outside of engineering, I have a very cool bearded dragon named Ms. Lizard. She is an excellent desk companion, occasional meeting guest, and unofficial supervisor of my projects.
